Money Management site (Egg, Yahoo etc) by
David Floyd
Does anyone know if there are any other Money Management sites similar
to Egg Money Management and Yahoo Finance.
Since I've had a VoIP Adapter on my system the Egg ActiveX page trashes
my ADSL connection, so I went to Yahoo Finance.
This works fine as far as it goes, but unfortunately there is a problem
with accessing Co-op Bank Accounts.
So I'd be interested to know if there any others...

Stupid Question About Increasing Jobs in Private Sector by
Maria[_13_]
News today that only 6% of the 200,000 new jobs created in the past year
are full-time, and part of the problem is that there are lower financial
obligations for workers who work less hours, why do employers not just
pay people cash in hand and tell them they must be responsible for their
own tax and NI?
I understand there is some issue with 'contractors' but I don't
understand it, but would...

Dormant Account question by
fred2
Just tried to shred some old paper trails and found an old savings book with
a balance of £1100.00.
Is there somewhere a way of computing the value without loading 300 odd Bank
of England base rate changes since 1981? ( My wife can't remember
squirreling the money away, but I am just curious as to todates value!)
Naturally, I am also pleased to save this document from the shredder :-)

Interest Rates... by
Jake[_2_]
Where can I find the interest rate that the UK is charged on its national
debt, and comparative figures for the rest of Europe?
Also a chart graphing their progress over time would be helpful!
Thanks

Crystallizing capital gains by
Tim Woodall
I own a property that was my main home and is now let. The proportion to
PPR (even including the last three years) is now such that I'm on the
edge of paying CGT were I to sell and it gets worse year by year even if
the propery doesn't rise in value (or even falls).
Basically PPR + residental lettings relief + annual CGT allowance = Gain.
I'd like to crystallize my gains and I'd be interested...

Calculating one-off tax/NI payment? by
Rasta Pickles
Can't find anything online, everything seems to want to calculate
liability for the year.
My sister is temping and the only way to get wageslips is online; the
agency website is being overhauled so she can't access her wageslip
for the last two week's work.
In a nutshell, she worked 84 hours @ £9 an hour and she's had £632.40
paid into her bank account.

CG Tax avoidance on property by
Ray Bicker
An owner of an investment property makes a gift of half of the property to two family members before selling it. Will the CG on the original cost of the
property to the final sale price be shared equally between the three? Is the valuation of the property at the time of making the gift of any relevance other
than for stamp duty?

Executor Accounts and £85000 Guarantee by
TheScullster
Hi all
My understanding is that there is now a guarantee on savings for each
"institution" to cover £85000 in savings for an individual.
As an executor of my late father's accounts, do the savings I am holding in
an account for future dispersal count as part of my own savings allocation?
Also, if the total of my father's savings exceed £85000 can I split this
between 2 institutions to avoid...

Questions on CGT and Gifts by
tg[_2_]
Could anyone please enlighten me on these questions:
1. What is the purpose of reporting the disposal of assets
worth more than 4 times the annual exempt amount?
Would I still be taxed if my actual gains is less than
the exempt amount?
2. Do I have to report gifts received anywhere in my tax return?
For example, if my dad gave me £10,000 do I have to
declare it (and where)?

Premium bonds - when do they update the "have you won" stuff by
google@woodall.me.uk[_2_]
Currently, it's still saying winnings up to Dec 2010 when I put in my
holder number. Last month I checked at the start of the month and
didn't notice and assumed I hadn't won until the warrant arrived at
the end of the month.
Also, currently on the High Value Winners page there is
"Higher value winners for November 2010"

Managing Agents Refusing Serving Charge Accounts by
CJB
We live in a purpose built block of 36 flats near Heathrow. The lease
states that all leaseholders should pay the service charge within 6
months of the end of the previous financial year - that is by
September. The lease also states that the formally audited service
charge accounts should also be sent to all leaseholders by then.
The managing agents are estate agents. The owner of the...

Euromillions rollover odds question by
Rasta Pickles
We were chatting over lunch about these rare occasions when you end up
with a £90m jackpot because it's rolled over half a dozen times or
so. Assume for the sake of argument that the ticket cost is still
£1.50 and there's no Mickey Mouse raffle.
The odds are something like 1 in 76 million?
So, hypothetically, why did no-one ever borrow £114 million and buy
every single combination of numbers?

NS&I: Premium Bond prizes: facility to pay prizes direct into Bankaccount by

For those that wish it, the facility to have any prizes that one wins
paid directly into a nominated bank account has become available. NS&I
appear to have launched new services of phone and online access. They
already have online access for their ISA, but are now doing Premium
Bonds as well. Part of the online access is payment of prizes into a
nominated bank and email notification. ...
