hedging against hyperinflation by
RichD
I am convinced of a U.S. hyperinflation in the next few years.
It's simple logic - the Fed has printed as never before, the
chickens must roost... we may even see an American Argentina.
How to protect oneself? Gold is the obvious - stocks or bullion?
And, what about the scenario of a gubmit grab of all gold- a
'temporary emergency measure', of course, for the national
good... to punish those...

Secrets of Wealth Creation learned from the Rec by
brian110947
The first Secret is Risk. We have all looked at risk wrongly. We have been taught for years that cash placed in bank deposit account is safe , the lowest risk next to government bonds. But look at the quote below.
This is reported on AOL
“SAN FRANCISCO (Feb. 10) — More than 1,000 banks may fail during the next three to five years as the recession intensifies and loan losses climb, an analyst at...

Spanish Property by
Neil[_2_]
I keep hearing about the property crisis in Spain. You'd think they'd
be giving it away, so where can you actually find Spanish Property at
low prices on the net or anywhere? Most of the sites that say they
specialise in this just seem to be trying it on and there is not a
bargain to be had,

Handling Regular USD Payments by
Francis
I have tried and cannot find an answer to this one anywhere. At least,
not an answer that is specific to my circumstances.
I regularly receive payments in US dollars and need to get this into
the UK in the most cost effective way. I am interested in a resource
where I can compare the various different buying rates offered by UK
banks. Or, alternatively, if anyone has a better idea for getting...

Dollar bank account - costs to/from USA? by
usenet@isbd.co.uk
Can one open a US dollar bank account which allows (relatively) cost
free paying in of cheques from the USA and also paying (by cheque) to
US bank accounts?
E.g. if I open a USD account with HSBC in the UK (for example) does it
help me in the slightest if I receive a cheque in USD from the US
and/or I want to send someoen a cheque in the USA? Or is it just
about as expensive as it would be to...

O/T Possibly Spending money in Greece? by
Ron
Hi I am going on holiday with my wife to a Greek island (Zante) in a few
weeks. First time abroad. Self catering accomodation for 2 weeks and neither
of us intends cooking. Any ideas as to the cost of living etc? I was
thinking of taking £500 worth of euros. Too much or not enough? I will also
have a credit card and my cashcard.
Thanks Ron

Investing In Iraqi Dinars; what do you think? by
contactdanielgeoghegan@hotmail.com
Hi.
Over the past month or so I've noticed people buying/selling the new
Iraqi Dinars, from sites such as www.buyiraqidinars.co.uk and
eBay.co.uk, in the hope of making a substantial profit in the future.
What is everybodies opinion on this; are people just wasting their time
investing in the dinar or is it actually a worthwhile investment?
I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

current accounts with online banking and NO TIMEOUT? by
John Stumbles
Having just spent half a day trying to set up new bank accounts to replace
our Coop Freeflow which they're closing in a few weeks (recent thread
passim) I've realised one extra desiderata (desideratum?) - that the
online banking interface doesn't automatically log you out if you go off
to get a cup of tea, go to the bog, answer the phone or are just slow
typing.
I don't mind if it locks me out...

The actual interest rate on a loan by
Rich[_4_]
I can borrow £7,500 for 66 months (5.5 years)
Monthly permium is £160.16.
If I pay my premiums for a year then I'd pay £1921.92, of which £558.36
would be interest, £1363.56 paying off the loan.
So, if I then were able to pay off the loan after a year, the actual
percentage interest on my loan is £558.36 / £7,500 = 7.44 %.

Sacking at short notice by
judith[_4_]
I see tonight that BMW have terminated 850 jobs at their Mini factory.
I also understand that these are all agency/contractors.
In my industry (IT) contractors are paid (say) three times the going
rate for permanent staff - and they have no security - they are
contractors.
When times are hard - they are the first to go.

M&S Money ISA Paradox by
Vortex3
Hello,
I have had an M&S Money Tracker cash ISA for 3 years or so, with a value of
about £3800 on the last statement.
I had some propaganda through the mail this week saying the interest rate on
this is now 1%.
In the same letter they are advocating a new "Advantage Cash ISA" offering a
3.1% bonus rate for incoming cash transfers from other ISA's. With the

Dollar crash: Calculated Chaos....Calculated Collapse by
YTR
The news is filled at the moment with potential horror stories about
the world economy and it all has a very familiar ring. Forget about
the nonsense you hear from economists and business news correspondents
about the 'economic cycle', it's all run like a military operation.
First of all, I should make the point, not that readers of these
newsletters need telling, that the economic system is...

Choosing an annuity by
D55
Small pension pot of £37000-ish.
In the current economic climate.
Would a non-profit annuity (smaller pay off) be the wisest option
against a with-profit annuity, by a significant distance?
I'm thinking that in said current economic climate any
annuity that doesn't state 'garuanteed for life' might dissappear
as some financial investment the annuity relies on, goes belly up.
Would be grateful...

Will inflation actually fall with a collapsing pound? by
Dave
I was wondering if inflation will actually fall, as predicted, with
the collapsing pound. For instance oil is priced in Dollars, and the
pound will soon be parity with the Euro, in my opinion.
Most of everything that is bought is via A- taxation or B- imports,
both of which could well increase.
Much household expenditure can be deferred, so you may get a good
price eventually. e.g. cars and...

Advice on Stirling and Euros.... by

My wife is due to start a one year placement in Italy starting in

Her salary is being paid to her in two lump sums by a US institution.
The first lot in July the second lot in early 2010.
I'd like some advice as to where this money should go when she is paid.
If we get it paid into an existing UK account then it will be converted
