Easiest way to access money while in Romania by
Patrick James
Hi
I'd be grateful for some people's thoughts on this.
In March I am going to Romania and in fact I will be coming and going
there over most of 2011.
I'm making a film there (it's not a Hollywood blockbuster, but just me
and a small camera making a documentary).

Where does the money come from for all the lending? by
Dave
Where does the money come from for all the lending?
It may be clear from this post that I have never studied economics,
but I can add.
When I was a child I used to think that people deposited money in
banks and building societies and the institutions lent this money out
at profit. However, with the amount of lending for high house
prices, and the amount of consumer debt I would like...

How abbreviated can abbreviated balance sheets be? by
skrivener
Hi
Late again! We're just rushing to get our Abbreviated Accounts sent out in time (for a simple £80k turnover business)
Can anyone help by telling us if it's OK to amalgamate "Stocks", "Debtors" & "Cash in hand" into a single figure of "Net Current Assets"
We've used the single figure in past abbreviated balance sheets without being queried on it, but when we try using the on-line form it...

Manx Pounds by
George A Hamilton
I had a disagreement with a customer today, as I refused to accept a pound
coin from the Isle of Man as payment. I always thought that coins that had
Isle of Man, Gibraltar or the name of any other British dependency on them
were not legal tender in the UK. Am I right?

Is my note still legal tender? by
Rachel
I have been given a £20 sterling note issued by the Bank of Ireland. It's
date is 1st Jan 1999 and the pic on the back is of the Queen's University of
Belfast. Does anyone know if it is still legal tender and what I should do
with it?
Thank you
Rachel

Bond Index by
morrisg
Hi.
I'm new to all this so please understand if my questions are 'basic'.
I've been offered investment in Barclays "14 per cent. Step Up Callable Perpetual Reserve Capital Instruments".
It's interesting but where can I check an Index to see it's current value/yield etc?
Is it actually traded on the Bond Exchange ???
Or a Credit Agency Rating for it.
Anything !!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your help.

Is it possible to change ?1 and ?2 coins (i.e. not just notes) into pounds

Left-over foreign currency (Czech) to charity? by
Haddock
We've just been to Prague for the w/e (and had a superb time).
We have a few Crowns left (amounting to about a fiver). I really can't
be bothered (me or them) to take them to the bank for reconverting.
Can anyone recommend a charity that will take a small amount of foreign
currency (notes & coins) and put it to good use?
Allan

Paul Krugman on the myths of austerity by
vjp2.at@at.BioStrategist.dot.dot.com
Wasting funds that are badly needed to save the economy is the
worst policy. Keynes was a homosexual who did not have any children,
so he did not care about the future when he said "In the long run we
are all dead." The Bush tax cuts prevented the economy from collapsing
after 9/11, SARS and Katrina. Even Volcker said at the 10/08 Bloomberg
WERT that the best stimulus would be to fix broken...

Electric meter in flat: How many units per £1 coin? by
Drake
I've got this domestic electric meter that takes £1 coins. Can anyone
tell me how many units per coin it should be set to? I don't want to
make a profit on the electricity; but I don't want to make a loss
either.
Thank you,
Drake

Foreign coins: unwanted / charity by
Allan Gould
I was in LloydsTSB t'other day and saw a green collecting box with a
Barnados sticker asking for unwanted foreign coins. As it happened, I
had a few kicking around (having come back from USA recently), and they
have now found a new home.

Unwanted (old, foreign etc) coins: Barclays/Childline by
Allan Gould
Just been in the local Barclays branch and there was a collecting box on
the counter for unwanted (old, foreign) coins in support of Childline.
I've seen a similar thing in LloydsTSB as well. Couldn't find much on
the web about the Barclays/Childline boxes (apart from something from
Barclays from 2005). I find these collecting boxes quite useful e.g.
when clearing out the bottom of draws...

Who's got the cash? by
Slainte
First; I know nothing of how world finance models operate, but with all this
talk about financial crisis around the globe I'd like to understand at least
how the model operates (or is supposed to operate).
So, who's got the cash? With the UK and as far as I can see most of the
European countries running a continual deficit, not to mention USA et al,
where do the loans come from. Who's got the...

All that glitters is gold... by
DSt
I've seen a few things/heard a few people say that gold will be the
next big thing. Is there any truth in this? I've had a little look at
investing in it, but it seems overly-complicated and looks to have high
initial outlays (before you even start to actually buy any gold). Any
thoughts on whether this would make a good short-term, *relatively*
low-risk investment, and how and where to go about...
