Just read the F & C investment trust results. They say they'll pay a
second interim dividend in lieu of a final dividend. Another company recently said the same thing. Why? The F & C div seems to be paid earlier, ie in the current tax year, if that is relevant. Usually it's paid in May. |

There seem to be a few companies bringing forward dividends, presumably to pay before the next tax year, when the higher tax rate goes up from 40% to 50%? |

What's the difference between an interim div and a final div? |

What's the difference between an interim div and a final div? The interim is paid halfwy through the company's trading year, as a rule, the final one, which has to be approved by shareholders, at the end. If a company has done particularly well, they occasionally pay a second interim... but not in lieu of a final one. |

So the only real difference (apart from the name) is that the shareholders need to approve a final div? Are (interim) divs actually linked to any particular trading year? |
