Childrens Trust after Bereavement by Talisker
My wife died recently, and left her life insurance in a trust for our two children (both at primary school). Myself and my wife's sister are trustees. Can I use the children's trust funds to but part of our home (less than 25%) so that their proportion will not count for IHT when I die, the cash would also reduce our mortgage which clearly has added benefits to al of us. Any help...

childrens tax credit 2002/3 by chris
Hi, I recently received my self assessment for 2002/03 !! in July 2004 as the IR hadn't been informed by my pay office of my change of address. As a result of the lateness of this return I am struggling to find out why I have been presented with tax owing of several hundred pounds ( I'm on PAYE and have little in the way of interest/dividends etc/other income.) Speaking to the IR they mentioned...

Goldfish - payment clearance times by Robin Cox
I've been told that Goldfish now require five working days to process a payment made by my bank (similarly Capital One, MBNA and Amex), while other card companies only require the payment to be made three days before the due date. Also, the payment "goes into a holding account for two days". Why are these four companies different? Robin

Debt Repaid by googlenospam@hotmail.co.uk[_2_]
I have a £140 mobile phone debt on my credit record. This is the only debt in six years but is preventing me from getting credit. The Halifax tell me even if I repay the mobile firm now it may "take months" for the effects/evidence of the debt to clear from my credit file. Is there a way I can speed up this process, I now have the funds but it seems pointless repaying a debt if someone - the...

Loan in wifes name only - does my situation come into it at all? by paulfoel
OK. I have problems getting any sort of loan (mainly because, I think, of the high limits on some of my credit cards). Anyway, all the credit cards are in my name, with wife as additional cardholder. Shes got nothing in her name at all (apart from joint on mortgage). If she applies for a loan, do they automatically take into account my debts because I'm married to her, or is it purely on...

Macquarie group unsafe investment endanger Royal Family by Whistler
I worked for a UK subsidiary of this company called Arqiva. They fitted covert radios into the Royal Household personal vehicles. This company, ran down security on site to the point, it was considered unsafe to leave police vehicles there over night! This was done with the full knowledge of Board Members. A report later commissioned by them to bid for new business clearly shows an unsafe...

Voluntary Severance by Davao - Arthur55
Hi gents/ladies. My employee offered the staff a voluntary severence opportunity last month and myself and many others have applied and been accepted. In my case, the decision on my application has been deferred for a few weeks while the chiefs consider some departmental reconstruction. I have a very gloomy feeling they may have exhausted their current lay-off budget and will offer me...

Dear Dave: pay child benefit to all regardless of income, and save apacket by johnboy[_2_]
How? Just add a small amount to income tax to cancel it out. Then - get rid of all the extra pencil pushers who would otherwise be needed to decide if the family passes some means test to get it. Result is a net saving in administration. In fact, why not pay unemployment benefit and all the other benefits to

inheritance tax question (house) by davestauntons@yahoo.co.uk
Hi, just a quick question - couldn't find the answer on the HMRC website. If a mother and daughter live together in a house owned by the mother, and it's the daughter's only residence as well as the mother's, is inheritance tax payable on the value of the house if the mother bequeathes it to her daughter and then dies? I think I'm right in saying that if the daughter sells the house later, then...

Lloyds TSB by Peter Saxton
I tried to pay Staples for a new business account I have set up. I entered the sort code, bank account number and account reference from the invoice I received into the Bill Payment system. I get a letter from Lloyds TSB saying Staples bank had returned the payment because of "No Account". I also pointed out they had described it as a "standing order" which was untrue. They said that it was a...
