Default Is there such a thing as duplicate debit cards?

I don't know whether this is possible in the UK, but all accounts I
hold with HSBC overseas allow you to have multiple account types
encoded into a single debit or credit card. I have my savings, current
and credit accounts all encoded into a single credit card, so I only
need to carry one card around which does everything.

So how does the card know which feature you wish to use on a per-transaction
basis?
